**COVID-19 Vaccines**
The first COVID-19 vaccines are being given out now, but because of the limited supply, they are being given to people based on priority level. It is estimated that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to the general public by Spring/Summer 2021, and will be administered for free through various vaccination centers, as well as major retail pharmacies such as Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens.

To find out when you can receive the COVID-19 vaccine, visit the LA County’s Public Health Department’s COVID-19 vaccine webpage:
http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/vaccine/index.htm

**COVID-19 Testing**
If you want or need a rapid COVID-19 test, the pediatrician with whom I share office space is now doing same-day rapid COVID-19 antigen tests. Results available in 15 minutes. If you or anyone you know is interested, her website is https://www.yulimd.com.

If you don't need a same-day test or if you want to get a free COVID-19 test, then visit the Los Angeles County Department of Health website to find local test sites:

https://covid19.lacounty.gov/testing/

**COVID-19 and Acute Care Visits**
If you are having a medical concern or problem, please book a "Telehealth Visit" for medical problems that can be taken care of either by phone or video call. If the problem appears to require an in-person visit, I can convert the appointment to an in-office visit. If you are not sure if a problem is suitable for a Telehealth Visit, you can send me an e-mail before booking an appointment.

**COVID-19 and Preventive Health Visits**
Because of the recent increased number of local COVID-19 cases, I am not scheduling any non-essential doctor visits at this time. Please wear a facial covering, follow social distancing guidelines, wash your hands.

Time for Flu Shots
Winter is here, so it is flu season. Every year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everybody age 6 months and older get the flu vaccine to protect against influenza. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is even more important to get the flu vaccine this year since there is the possibility that you can get infected with both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time, with potentially more serious consequences than for either one alone.

I have given out all my supply of flu vaccine for this year but you can still get a flu shot from a local pharmacy.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The novel coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, is a potential health threat to everyone around the world.

For most people, an infection with COVID-19 will either cause mild cold/flu-like symptoms or no symptoms at all. However, there are some people who are at higher risk of serious complications from a COVID-19 infection: the elderly; those with serious health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, cancer; those who are immunocompromised. Even if you are not in a high-risk group, you can still develop serious illness or even die from it, or you may transmit it to someone who is vulnerable so that is why EVERYONE needs to be careful to avoid infection.

Since there is currently no vaccine or treatment for COVID-19, the best way we can prevent the spread of infection and protect those who are at high-risk is to practice social distancing and wear a mask covering your nose and mouth whenever you are around others. This can reduce your risk of infection, and protect everyone else around you.

There is a lot of misinformation being circulated about COVID-19, so please don't just automatically believe everything you read or hear. Please rely on information from official health agencies such as the CDC, or legitimate news sites. If you have any questions about COVID-19, feel free to contact me (preferably by e-mail) and I will do my best to provide an answer.
